On Sunday November 29, 2015 at approximately 9:30 PM, Canaan Police Sergeant Ryan R. Porter and Officer Wayne F. Agan attempted to stop a black 1999 Infinity sedan on US Route 4 for a motor vehicle violation. The operator increased the vehicle’s speed, passed several vehicles in a no passing zone and violated numerous motor vehicle laws in an attempt to elude Sergeant Porter and Officer Agan.
The incident began on US Route 4 in Canaan, continued onto NH Route 118, and
eventually into Orange, New Hampshire. Due to safety concerns, Sergeant Porter discontinued the pursuit and continued at a safe speed in the same direction of the vehicle. A short time later, Sergeant Porter and Officer Agan located the vehicle overturned in the middle of Burnt Hill Road in Orange.
The operator crawled out of the overturned vehicle and ran into the woods. Sergeant Porter and Officer Agan pursued the operator and took him into custody. The suspect was identified as
MARTIN P. O’CONNOR, 40 Years old of Grafton,
New Hampshire O’Connor suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. O’Connor was charged with DISOBEYING AN OFFICER and OPERATING AFTER SUSPENSION (Subsequent Offense). Each offense is an A Misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of $2,000 and 1 year in the House of Corrections. He was released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail to ensure his appearance in the 2nd Circuit Court – District Division Lebanon on Monday January 11, 2016 at 8:15 AM.
