On Saturday August 30, 2014,

STEVEN M. VIELGUTH, age 28, of Canaan, New Hampshire

was arrested for the following felony offenses: (1) count of Controlled Drugs – Acts Prohibited with intent to sell Heroin, (1) count of Controlled Drugs – Acts Prohibited possession of Xanax, (1) count of Attempted Burglary at Night, (1) count of Operating as a Habitual Offender

Vielguth was arrested for the following misdemeanor offenses: (1) count Disobeying a Police Officer, (1) count Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, (1) count Resisting Arrest, (1) count Controlled Drugs – Acts Prohibited possession of Marijuana, (1) count of Possession of Drugs in a Motor Vehicle.

The above charges carry a combined total of over 100 years in prison.

ASHLEY M. MORSE , age 27, of Canaan, New Hampshire
was arrested for one (1) count of Allowing an Improper Person to Operate a Vehicle, a Violation level offense that carries a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine.

At approximately 9:50 PM, Officers from the Canaan Police Department attempted to make a motor vehicle enforcement stop near the intersection of US Route 4 and Goose Pond Road. The vehicle turned onto Goose Pond Road, accelerated and refused to stop for the police officers. Officers pursued the vehicle, for approximately 2.8 miles, with the vehicle increasing it’s speed to over 80 MPH.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop on West Shore Road, where the driver, Vielguth and passenger, Morse ran from the vehicle. Vielguth unsuccessfully attempted to enter an occupied residence and was quickly apprehended after the police officer deployed a Taser.

Vielguth was found to be in possession of 332 bags of Heroin, Xanax and Marijuana. The heroin has an approximate street value of $7,000.

Vielguth was arraigned in the 2nd Circuit Court – District Division Lebanon and is currently being held at the Grafton County House of Correction in lieu of $50,000 cash only bail.

Morse was released on her own recognizance.

Officers from the Canaan Police Department were assisted by the New Hampshire State Police, Enfield Police Department and Canaan Ambulance.
